Good Fortune is finished from Wendy's Quilts and More

It's been a long time coming, but I'm very pleased to advise that my Bonnie Hunter Mystery Quilt from 2018 is finally finished.  It's called Good Fortune.

I like it, but I wouldn't say that I'm in love with it.  I did learn some useful lessons along the way though;

- beware of mystery quilts.  This isn't the first time I've said this, but I think I started this quilt before I really learnt my lesson on Jen Kingwell's Marshal mystery quilt.

- if you're going to change the colours or layout, be ...

On Ringo Lake(A Podunk Picnic) Finish from Podunk Pretties

Finishing a Quiltville Mystery is a major accomplishment in my quilting world.  I don't typically make quilts with so many little pieces.  Bonnie style of quilting is a little bit more classic/traditional than my style.  Every once in awhile it's good to get out of the comfort zone.

The challenge isn't just in the tiny pieces that are for the most part cut individually.  Choosing fabrics for a mystery can be challenging since I almost always change the colors.  Thank goodness she gives us a month to choose fabrics before the first clue is released.  It ...

Squaring up and Making a Path from Podunk Pretties

Can you believe it?  A Podunk Picnic is off the quilting frame and ready to be squared up.  I think that was the fasted I've ever quilted a quilt of this size. 70 x 90 or 75 x 90...well it's somewhere close to those numbers.   Sitting for hours sewing the binding on is a well deserved break.

But before squaring up and attaching the binding I need to clear a path for the delivery of packages. The six inches of snowfall has made huge snowdrift on the front walkway and porch. I'm pretty sure the deliveries ...

A Friday Flimsy and Cleaning The Quilter from Podunk Pretties

Happy Friday Quilting Friends!  First I want to thank all of you who shared your thoughts on naming this quilt.  It's unanimous, she will officially be named A Podunk Picnic.  You all know me well and have chosen the perfect quilt name.

Bonnie's mystery quilts are usually inspired by an event of some sort throughout the year.  One year she went to China and the quilt that year was inspired by all the colors she saw during her visit.  And since this one is called On Ringo Lake, I'm pretty sure she visited Ringo lake in 2016 ...

On Podunk Pond Assembly Line from Podunk Pretties

Happy Monday Quilting Friends!  It's days like today that make me thankful for my happy place.  Outside it's going to be another cold, gloomy and gray winter day in Indiana.  But inside it's bright and happy like a warm spring day.  The sweet smell of the lilac candle in the living room has drifted into the Studio giving me the illusion of spring.  My brightly color version of Bonnie Hunters quilt pattern called On Ringo Lake is singing to me....

~ Juggling Projects ~ 50% OFF SALE ~ from Podunk Pretties

How many projects can a quilter juggle at one time?  There's no definitive answer.  Typically I don't like to juggle projects but every now and again it becomes a necessity.   The project first in the toss is the Flower Sugar Rose Kiss fabrics.  This one is long overdue.  She's almost complete and the pattern should be ready to publish within the next week or two.  The plan was to keep the pattern and quilting quick and easy but once I got this cutie on the quilt frame my quilting instinct had different plans.  It's not quite ...

~ Bonnie Hunter 2019 Mystery ~ Frolic ~ from Podunk Pretties

Autumn is the best time of year.  I love the cooler temperatures, the warm colors in nature and the Bonnie Hunter Mystery Quilt.  This year the mystery quilt is called Frolic.  The clues for the quilt are FREE while the quilt along is in progress. So be sure to save the free PDF's to your computer each week.  Yes! each week.  That's why I like this mystery quilt.  It moves along at a much faster pace than most.  Once a month quilt alongs are a quilt killer in my world.  I lose interest.

Bonnie's quilt along (in ...

Good Fortune (and the Peacock Party) from Wendy's Quilts and More

Remember that Good Fortune quilt that I started in the Bonnie Hunter Mystery Quilt sew along last year? Well, I've finally started hand quilting it.

I like to use lots of colours of thread in my hand quilting

I know Bonnie is currently leading a tour group through Kenya, but I also know that as soon as she's back in the USA she will be announcing her next mystery quilt.

I will NOT be joining in the next mystery quilt.  Don't laugh - I will be strong.  I have enough on my plate at present without diving into ...
